The question I get most often is: “How do I find the right dose when I’m just starting out?”

Here’s what I’ve learned through trial and (sometimes hilarious) error:
- Start Low and Go Slow
- If you’re new, 2.5–5 mg of THC is a good starting point. Some edibles now come in microdose sizes, which is awesome for testing your tolerance.
- Pay Attention to Timing
- Edibles can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to fully kick in, depending on your metabolism and whether you’ve eaten recently. It’s easy to get impatient and take more, but that often leads to an overwhelming high. Trust me, I’ve been there.
- Stay Hydrated
- A lot of people forget this, but water is your friend when you’re doing any kind of cannabis. Keep a bottle nearby to avoid dry mouth and to help you stay comfy.
- Know Your Product
- If you’re buying from a dispensary, check if it’s a sativa, indica, or hybrid-dominant edible. The type of strain used can affect whether you feel energized, relaxed, or a bit of both.
- If you’re going homemade, try to know the strain source or potency, so you’re not stuck with an unexpected rollercoaster ride.
- Have a Calm Space
- Edibles can be more intense than smoking or vaping. If you’re experimenting, do it somewhere you feel safe and relaxed.
